Kenton and Gina met at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and after many adventures including living in separate cities, surviving grad school, adopting two cats, buying a house, and raising a crazy puppy, they finally decided to tie the knot!
Since they’ve been together for so long, the engagement came as a surprise to no one. However, Kenton is a total romantic and insisted on a surprise proposal — despite the fact that he let Gina pick her own ring. After enlisting one of Gina’s friends to come up with an excuse to get her to Chapel Hill, Kenton popped the question at sunset on a beautiful fall evening in front of Gina’s favorite library on UNC’s campus. As she said, “yes!” a group of young girls watching from a blanket on the campus quad cheered for both the couple and for UNC’s football team, as they kicked a winning field goal in a tie game. Kenton swears he planned this, but Gina is still skeptical.
While UNC’s history is what drew her to the school, and the reason Kenton proposed there, the couple chose to take their engagement photos in the middle of downtown Durham instead, among all of the old tobacco warehouses. Durham is their home and Kenton’s hometown, and he loves listening to Gina talk about its buildings and its history. They’re getting married next fall in a 1930’s auto garage turned music venue in the heart of Durham, and couldn’t be more excited!
